Spectators look at statistics and see Katie Hawkins’ 11 points and six rebounds she posted this season for Blessed Trinity. But head coach Tamara Henderson said there is more to the player affectionately referred to as “Hawk” than just the box score.

“It’s the stuff that you don’t see,” said Henderson. “She’s all over the place. Getting a hand on the ball, diving after loose balls, guarding big girls in the post, knocking down free-throws, moving her feet. I’m glad she gets the points and rebounds, but I’m more thankful she does all the little stuff.”

Henderson is not the only one who noticed. Hawkins was chosen as BT’s only All-Region selection from 6AA in 2010.

The 5-foot-9-inch senior saved one of her biggest games for a huge stage. Hawkins scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the Lady Titans’ 50-43 upset victory over North Oconee in the Class-AA Sweet 16 on March 3.

A versatile athlete, Hawkins is a 12-time varsity letter winner in basketball, softball, and track. But her talents are not reserved just for the field of play. She is a 4.0 student at BT, and will attend Georgia Tech in the fall.

“She’s great on the court and goes the extra mile. In class, same thing,” said Henderson, who taught Hawkins in chemistry. “She’s a great student.”
