Plans for a new Walmart Neighborhood Market on Haynes Bridge Road have hit a minor barricade, due to a denial from Alpharetta’s design review board.
But, according to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. spokesman Glen Wilkins, the decision should not affect the project’s time line.
The retailer, which already has permission to build its new store, came before the board Friday to ask permission to add their green banding to the business’ front elevation.
The request was denied with a 3-2 vote, based on the color scheme created by the green when paired with a blue color that extends through the entire shopping center.
“That’s our branding. We all have our colors that we use, and those are the colors used to distinguish the Neighborhood Market locations from the others,” Wilkins said Tuesday morning regarding the green color presented for the banding. “We’re going to have to evaluate that and work through it.”
Wilkins said the company still plans to start building within the next few weeks.
“I don’t see why this ruling would affect construction,” he said, adding that the store will be opening some time late in the third quarter of this year.
The board told the company representative it can come back with a different color scheme to be submitted for approval.
Walmart Neighborhood Market locations are much smaller than regular Walmart stores and feature only groceries and a pharmacy.
The 47,000-square-foot store will take up the anchor space in the Alpharetta Crossing shopping center and will hire 80 to 100 employees.
