You asked (via Twitter): Has anyone else reported that City of Alpharetta water has started to smell? Any idea why or if it is being resolved?

Our answer: Alpharetta’s Engineering and Public Works Director Pete Sewczwicz said he has not heard any recent complaints from residents about the way their water smells.

“No citizens have called me or e-mailed me about this,” he said.

However, the city does not handle its own water. Fulton County’s public works department is in charge of water for Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton and Roswell.

Fulton County Water System Superintendent Thomas Czeczil said he has not received any calls from Alpharetta residents about the smell of their water.

If a north Fulton resident has a complaint or an issue with their water, they ara advised to contact the Fulton County water/sewer billing division and public works department at (404) 730-6830.

Alpharetta sold it’s water system to Fulton County in 2004 when the system was in need of repair.

The city’s water system began early in Alpharetta’s history as a series of wells with a large water tank that served as a back-up water supply. As the city grew, it closed the wells and entered into an agreement with Fulton County to supply the city with water at a wholesale rate. The entire system was sold to Fulton County for $10, on the condition that the county would make $3 million worth of necessary repairs.
